Reverse-engineered legacy equipment to deliver cost-effective repairs without manufacturer support.
Value
Significantly reduced the cost of support and extended the life of critical network hardware.
What we set out to do
The Challenge
BT approached us with a critical requirement: to move away from costly manufacturer support for a specific product still deployed in their legacy network. Despite the product’s decreasing fault volumes, the manufacturer’s pricing model remained high, making it an unsustainable long-term option.
BT launched a competitive RFP process, aiming to identify a partner that could deliver a viable repair solution independently of the original vendor.
Our Approach
Tesora was the final candidate able to develop and propose a fully independent repair capability. The challenge was compounded by the lack of manufacturer support and licensing restrictions, which meant we couldn’t replicate a field unit for testing at our facility.
Our engineering team took a deep dive into the technology, reverse-engineering the product from the ground up.
With no access to proprietary tooling or software, we developed our own custom testing platform to validate repaired units and ensure functionality met in-field expectations.
The solution involved both hardware diagnostics and the creation of in-house software tools, allowing us to simulate real-world network conditions and performance.
The Outcome
Tesora became the only approved repair partner to successfully deliver a working solution for this legacy device. The partnership allowed BT to:
Significantly reduce their dependence on expensive OEM support
Extend the life of critical network infrastructure without compromising reliability
Avoid premature capital expenditure on a full hardware refresh
Gain access to a transparent, flexible, and responsive service model
Why It Matters
This project is a clear example of Tesora’s deep-rooted engineering capability and agile problem-solving.
Where others were limited by lack of access or technical barriers, we designed and delivered a solution from scratch—showcasing our commitment to helping customers retain control of their network estate.
Key Highlights
Reverse Engineering: Developed full repair capability without OEM documentation or tools
Custom Software: Built in-house test tools to simulate network environments
Cost Efficiency: Delivered long-term savings by eliminating high OEM repair fees
Legacy Network Support: Extended the useful life of in-field equipment, aligning with BT’s sustainability goals
Conclusion
Tesora’s innovative engineering approach turned a cost-intensive challenge into a future-ready solution. We proved that with the right expertise, even unsupported or legacy technology can remain a reliable and cost-effective part of a modern network strategy.
Testimonial
"I have been dealing with Tesora for over 5 years now and they have been absolutely brilliant. They have always exceeded the agreed SLA’s and will offer technical assistance as and when needed – never do they pressure us into something that would not benefit the wider business just for their business. Tesora are a family run business with family like values. Great Team work."
